Where I share business growth insights, tips,
and wisdom to help you propel your success.
Welcome to the November 2020 B.G.I. newsletter. I must admit, I do love these Autumn months!
It feels like something magical happens. The air is crisper and clearer, the trees turn from pine green to an array of gold, copper, and bronze and the sense of something new and exciting happening lingers around every corner.
There is no feeling more satisfying than dusting off my boots, wrapping up in a cosy coat, hat and gloves and going on a riverbank walk into town. I love the smell of wood burner fires, the crisp air and vibrant autumnal landscape colours. Having lived in Queensland, Australia for the past 16 years this is a novelty I have not yet tired of.
Autumn feels like a fresh start, a new beginning making way for new ideas and fresh perspectives, bolstering the drive to get motivated, get productive and get things done.
This is especially true for businesses. Even during these uncertain times, according to Inc.com, productivity is at its peak during...
Whatever your internal motivation for going into business is, I’d say that, at some level, all professional experts and advisors want to help others. We want to make a difference and assist those who are really motivated for change, motivated to find a solution to their current challenge, desire or frustration, and motivated to reach their aspirational end goal. The truth is that there are hundreds of thousands of people who are deeply motivated and ready for your expertise—right now. You just have to find them.
So instead of trying to sell your services and solutions to just anybody, we want to identify and work with the people who are already looking for what you offer. The people who want your particular expert advice. When you do this the process becomes a whole lot smoother.
Always remember, people don’t actually buy your expertise because they want your expertise. People...

Six Hints to Becoming More Productive
Are you juggling so many things that sometimes you become the busy fool going around in circles achieving very little, rather than prioritising, taking one thing at a time, and most importantly, taking the action to get it done?
Well, trust me you’re not alone… I think 99% of people reading this would have felt this way at some point in their life. I’ve been guilty of this so many times in both my business and life, (especially when COVID hit earlier this year) but sometimes you gotta say enough and just Get into Action and Get It Done.
After all, we all get the same 24 hours in a day, but the question is; Have you made specific choices (and plans!), that allows you to make the most of every day?
Here are my top six hints to becoming more productive and achieving more…
To market your business more effectively…
Why guess when you can go straight to the horse’s mouth!?
Yep, this post is all about getting some clarity and the best way to find out what you do well and what you could improve is simply to ask those who know, like, and trust you enough to have said yes to your offering.
Constantly seeking feedback from your customers/clients is a great way to learn how to market your business more effectively. If you’ve never done this before, make it this week’s priority task, as it’s one of the best ways to discover what YOU DO that actually differentiates you from your competition.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worked with a business that had no idea what its competitive advantage was, what they did well, why people bought from them, how they found them until they heard it right from the mouths of happy customers.
So, if you wanna market your business more effectively, get really clear on what sets you...
I have just started to be more active on social media to expand my following and reach and one thing I find I’m invited to do by those I’m connected to is like their page. Yes, I receive that “like my page” request frequently…I’m sure you do too right? Now, for me, if I have no connection to the person behind this general request, I pretty much ignore the request and don’t like the page. I have a feeling that others, especially in the business world operate the same way.
Now, I know increasing your following and getting more likes is the name of the game. Well respected Facebook marketers tell you the key to social media success is building your page likes, your following and that it’s all about the numbers. While this is true, there is a right way and wrong way to do it that could be costing you thousands of...
5 Tactics to Help You Identify YOUR Ideal Client
The one piece of advice I give to all my clients from the outset is “don’t try to be all things to all people”. Narrow your focus and know who you’re targeting, that is who the ideal target client for your business is.
Most businesses I work with tell me that their target market is everybody. Big mistake!! (Unless you are a big consumer brand with a huge marketing budget.) For most small to medium business experts, advisors, coaches, and consultants it is extremely ineffective to advertise to everyone because no one will listen. It’s like yelling ‘everyone!’ in a crowd, no one would turn around (unless they want to see what’s going on). If you’d yell ‘Peter!’, the guy called Peter would turn around! It’s exactly the same with your marketing.
In order to save money and to be more effective, you must narrow your focus and select the ideal target client for your...
There’s a number of ways out there to promote or grow your business but I have a few favourites I believe every business should employ and one of them is Referral Marketing.
Pretty much any small-to-medium business expert, advisor, coach, or consultant I have spoken to has shared that word of mouth referrals are the number one or the main way they get more clients.
And it’s not surprising as receiving business by referral is the most cost-efficient marketing strategy you can use, its high leverage and you can see the results instantly. But what is surprising to me is when I ask any of my new clients or business owners I meet at an event or the like, what they purposefully do to generate referrals…I literally get a blank stare.
So, why, if word of mouth referrals are the # 1 marketing strategy and way businesses get more clients, doesn’t every business jump on the bandwagon and proactively use this tool...
13 Tips to Master the Art of Networking with Ease
If the thought of walking into a room full of strangers and talking about yourself makes you sweat, you’re not alone. When you look upon networking events and business functions as an “opportunity” to meet new people, do some market research and find potential clients, it will become a pleasure instead of a “chore”. Going in with a game plan will make you feel prepared and ready for the event!
