November Newsletter 2020: How to get motivated, get productive & get things done

Welcome to the November 2020 B.G.I. newsletter.  I must admit, I do love these Autumn months!

It feels like something magical happens.  The air is crisper and clearer, the trees turn from pine green to an array of gold, copper, and bronze and the sense of something new and exciting happening lingers around every corner.

There is no feeling more satisfying than dusting off my boots, wrapping up in a cosy coat, hat and gloves and going on a riverbank walk into town. I love the smell of wood burner fires, the crisp air and vibrant autumnal landscape colours.  Having lived in Queensland, Australia for the past 16 years this is a novelty I have not yet tired of.

Autumn feels like a fresh start, a new beginning making way for new ideas and fresh perspectives, bolstering the drive to get motivated, get productive and get things done.

This is especially true for businesses.  Even during these uncertain times, according to, productivity is at its peak during Autumn, with more tasks getting completed than any other season.

Why? Because Autumn gives us the opportunity to turn over a new leafe, to try something different, make changes and improvements so we can close off the year strong, ready for the next.

So, as we head into November, and another lock down here in England, why not take advantage of this in your business and make some positive changes.  Here's some ideas to get you started:

  • Review your company culture, including your business vision, mission and values.
  • Check in on your brand positioning – does it still ring true for you? Is it consistent across channels? Can you answer the question “What do you do?” with ease?
  • Review your marketing plan. Take advantage of virtual seasonal events and holiday festivals.  Ensure your website, social media and print materials are up to date and aligned with the changing season.
  • Update the imagery or colour scheme of your social media cover photos.  Promotional graphics should feature earthier tones to reflect the season.
  • Choose one new marketing strategy to implement in your business. Schedule chunks of time in your diary to work on it for at least 2-3 months.
  • Organise a virtual event to bring your community, customers and/or team together.
  • Ask your team, suppliers and clients for feedback - what do they love, what could be improved, what would they like to see from you? See my post 6 Questions You Should Ask Every Customer. Fresh ideas and perspectives suddenly feel possible at this time of year.
  • Show up and share - start a blog, write a newsletter, give seasonal tips – what should your ideal clients be doing or focusing on at this time of year? Let your people into your world, let them see the person behind the brand and the value you have to offer.
  • Prioritise planning.  Get down to the nitty gritty of how and where you want to end the year – what’s your revenue goal? Do you have a project you want to complete?

So, while parts of our outside world are on hold, work on your inner world.  And of course, if you need help with any of that I'd love to step in and help you out, starting with a...
