Set For Success: 10 Ways To Set Yourself Up For Success In 2021

My suggestion... start this year very different to every other year; especially if you feel busy or overwhelmed already.

It can be easy just to pick up where you left off in 2020 and get buried in daily tasks, overthinking or worse overwhelm stagnation.  So this post is a gentle reminder to take the time you need to arm yourself for the year ahead.

This means stepping away from working ‘in’ your business and devoting even a small amount of time to working ‘on’ it.

You probably heard many times in 2020 that “we’re all in the same boat” well I’m here to say we’re not all in the same boat.  We’re all in the same body of water but some of us are in ships, some are in yachts, some are in canoes, some are holding onto other people’s boats (the employees) and some are treading water and just staying afloat.  [Thanks goes out to mindset mentor Susanne Evans for this analogy].

10 Ways To Set Yourself Up For Success In 2021

  1. Double Down On Paid Opportunity

Get into the mindset of spending - look for opportunities to get in front of people (your ideal people) and pay for them if they are the perfect fit.  Think sponsorships, alliances, ad spend, email lists, speaking opportunities.  Your end goal here is to attract traffic and grow your list.

  1. Line Up Your Sales and Special Offers / Discounts Now

Create a suite of products to meet people where they are at now.  Credit is shrinking, cash flow is critical so think ahead of the game at what you can do to meet people where they are.  Offer a trial entry price, payment plans, smaller courses at lower price points.

  1. Go Virtual

There is still a lot in 2021 that will stop people from traveling so get into the virtual mindset and stay there for now, especially if you are a speaker or run events.

  1. Become the go-to expert

Because there is so much free info available you have to be a master in your field.  You need to be the expert and know more than anyone else on your topic.  They say “the best marketer wins” but not this year.   So, read 50+ books on your topic, research your industry, share your knowledge and add value to your audience on a consistent basis.

  1. Mind Your Mind

Where are you spending your time?  Who are you surrounding yourself with? What are you absorbing on a daily basis? Are they lifting you up or dragging you down?  Are they building their boats or treading water?  If they are not in the now, not lifting you up or inspiring you to move forward they are not the right people/places to be.

  1. It’s Time for Discipline

Teach yourself to WIN.  Winning means discipline, it means consistency, it means showing up and not stopping.  When was the last time you practiced winning - when did you last work on your marketing message, your customer journey and offer funnels?  Are you clear and consistently working on your marketing?  If not knows the time. 

  1. Spend Some Money

Money is energy and it needs to flow to grow.  So spend some money on your team if you need to grow.  On mentorship if you’re ready to launch.  On technology if you’re ready to automate.  If you want to stay or get ahead you have to continue to grow.

  1. Understand How to Reach Your People

Understand where your ideal clients are in their journey right now – if they are drowning they can’t buy an event ticket but you can give them one.  If they are doggy paddling they are exhausted, throw them a lifeline – write their copy, create their plan.  Understand how to reach your people and meet them there via marketing, marketing, marketing.  

  1. Check On People

Reach out to your clients and customers more than you have.  Connect with people, check in on them multiple times because people want to be seen and heard.

  1. Innovate Don’t Reinvent

Don’t reinvent simply innovate for the times.  To continually reinvent yourself is exhausting.  Create systems, technologies and strategies that work in any economy. 

I had planned to speak at 23 conferences in 2020 that all had to be cancelled.  I didn’t stop speaking or change everything I simply reworked my plan to speak virtually, do more podcast interviews and work on updating my website and automating my business into an online portal I could be proud of.

By doing this, you will escape the treadmill and find ways to get the results and profits you’re looking for without the confusion, overwhelm or working longer hours.
